RGRTA’s East Main Facility Renovation

To start us off I would like Beechwood Neighborhood Coalition members to comment on their feelings about the RGRTA’s Facility Renovation plans, specifically the upfront parking issue.

How do you feel about how the Community Meeting went on Wednesday July 29?

Please feel free to add your comments.

Learning that the RGRTA does not have to go through the planning and zoning comission and the “upfront” parking is against zoning regulations in the city of Rochester, it became clear to me that RGRTA held the public meeting to serve as window dressing. They want to give the impression that they are including the public in their renovation but really have not interest in altering their plans.

I came away from the meeting seeing that the RGRTA, an essentially private company who’s primary mission is to serve the public (via transportation), doesn’t get or have an interest in “getting” the public at all. This is a disappointing realization and I don’t think they have really taken a look at how they can play a beneficial role in our community, rather than treating their facility as a parking lot to store and maintain their busses.

Any thoughts about who we should start writing letters to?

I wish that RGRTA would use some of that extra money they’ve been getting to reach OUT to their neighbors rather than retreat into their compound. A block party or free bus passes would go along way in building community rather than building a large parking lot with a large fence around it. If they need the parking, fine. But do something to show you care about the City and people, not just about yourselves.
